The First Lights Off Photoshoot: Racing Dreams in Rijeka

When I set out to build the Lights Off shop, I knew I needed photos that truly captured what this brand is all about. Shooting in a studio or a random outdoor location felt boring and disconnected. I wanted something raw, something real—something on track. That’s when a friend told me about a track day in Rijeka, Croatia. The idea was set. I quickly ordered some shirts and reached out to my friend Magnus Gustavsen, asking if he’d join me as a model. He said yes, and everything seemed good to go.

The Chaos Before the Trip

Three days before the trip, Magnus agreed to join me. But when I called him the day before our departure to check if he had booked his flight to Munich (where we’d start the drive to Croatia), his reaction was priceless—he’d completely forgotten! In true Magnus fashion, he canceled all his weekend plans on the spot and booked a ridiculously expensive last-minute flight. That’s what I call commitment.

Meanwhile, I had my own issues. The shirt samples I needed for the shoot were delayed. I postponed our departure by a day, hoping they would arrive in time. On the afternoon of the rescheduled travel day, I was glued to the window, watching for the mailman. At 2 PM, the samples finally arrived. I grabbed them straight from his hands, packed my bags, and drove to Munich to pick up Magnus. Together, we hit the road to Rijeka.

On the Track

The racetrack was buzzing with energy—amazing cars, great people, and a unique vibe. We had full access to film and shoot, so I made sure to create as much content as possible. Some of those photos are still on the shop today, capturing the spirit of that first big moment for Lights Off.

Magnus and I even hit the track ourselves, taking a few laps, trying to coach some of the gentlemen drivers, and sneaking in a bit of networking. Who knows, maybe we planted the seeds for future sponsors!

Balancing Work and Play

Our hotel was the cherry on top: a cozy spot with a private beach where we unwound after long days at the track. One evening, we rented a boat to explore the coastline. Honestly, it felt more like a holiday than work, but it was the perfect setting to combine the Lights Off vibe—fast cars, fun, and relaxation.

A Night to (Almost) Forget

We decided to check out Rijeka’s nightlife one evening. Let’s just say, a German and a Norwegian weren’t exactly welcomed with open arms. We narrowly avoided getting lured into a sketchy club where things could’ve gone very wrong. After wasting a night and an hour-long drive back to the hotel, we were under-slept but ready to hit the track again the next morning. No regrets—just another crazy story to tell.

This trip wasn’t just about photos. It embodied everything Lights Off represents: fast cars, good times, unforgettable memories, and connecting with amazing people. Whether it’s cruising around a racetrack, relaxing by the beach, or navigating a wild night out, it’s all about the stories we create.

Years from now, I’ll tell my kids about the time I was in Croatia with a Norwegian at a racetrack, dodging some sketchy nightlife situation. It sounds insane—and it was. But that’s exactly what Lights Off is about: living for the thrill, making memories, and always chasing the next adventure.
